The difference between Jobs and Careers

Is there really a difference?
Some argue that there is a notable difference between jobs and careers, however I wonder what the differences entail. Does this mean an individual with a job they consider a career is in fact not a career? For instance an individual, who never felt they needed an education beyond high school, works in fast food restaurants with the ambition of becoming a manager. After years of working in the industry, they finally meet their goal and promoted to management.
Some argue that working within the fast food establishment does not amount to a career. The question is why, since the individual had the motivation and desire to become a manager and nothing more or less. Clearly, the individual considers this job a career. All jobs have the potential to become a career. The individual decides for their self, whether their job is just a job or a path to a career.
Neither a job nor careers have more security than the other. Some people argue jobs have more security than careers. Both jobs and careers seem to run synonymous to one another, since a career is in the eye of the beholder and both have the potential for growth.
Jobs defined are a participation of an activity with the only goal of making money and as safe, short-term in time with very little need for special skills or education. This definition is not east to agree with. Personally, all jobs hold potential for growth if its wanted and is not on account of what others perceive. The individual perception of their future becomes the sole contributor to their overall success and future and not the definition given by others.
One individual known personally illustrates this point extremely well. This person never got anything more than a high school diploma, due to choice. After high school they started working for a company, which eventually lead to them becoming part owner and this was without any special skills or education. On the other hand, another individual with experience, skills, and education cannot find a job for the life of them.
Any opinions would greatly be appreciated and I look forward to hearing you’re take on this matter. Thank you.
